Chile's presidential vote had been led by Sebastian Pinera, conservative billionaire, and just on Monday had been seen as the favorite to win a runoff, as well as to lead a regime change over in Latin America's model economy. This alternative is now coming around after 20 years of leftist rule.
As airline magnate ranking at number seven hundred and one on Forbes' global rich list, Pinera had won 44 percent in Sunday's voting, just shy of what had been needed for an outright victory.
This statement was based on official results that had been near-complete.
