Supreme Court upholds ruling against slandering journalist

The slander conviction of Chilean journalist Victor Gutierrez, who alleged that a former Miss Universe had had an affair with Brazilian author Paulo Coelho while engaged to a former Argentine President, was upheld by the Supreme Court last Wednesday. The Court fined the journalist $48,000 in damages.

It can also be remembered that Gutierrez was fined $2.7 million after accusing Michael Jackson of child molestation in 1998.

Airlink with Tierra del Fuego

Chile plans to improve airlink with Tierra del Fuego to increase opportunities for the region's tourism industry. Puerto Williams expanded its airtrips and got its facilities improved to allow more commercial trips.

Yazmin Balboa, director general of Chile's Airport Agency says that with Puerto Williams condition at the coutry's most city could rapidly make the region one of the tourist hot spots.

Cuban-Chilean Joint Venture Expands

Rio Zaza S.A., a Cuban - Chilean joint venture that produces juices and nectars, rums, and tomato sauce has increased production for the domestic and international markets after 15 years of operations in Cuba.

Rio Zaza S.A. list more than 100 product s ranging from cookies, wines. instant soft drinks, mango juices that are used by Cuba's tourism sector. Its products is distributed by ITH and have been certified by Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene.

Southward expansion of salmon fishing industry may harm tourism

The environment and the tourism industry in extreme south Chile may be at risk once the ailing salmon farms start to move southwards.

This was the warning made by environmentalists and some government officials on the southward expansion of the nation's salmon farming industry.

For quite some time now, fish viruses in the upper regions have forestalled growth in the salmon industry, prompting farms to move southward.
