What's it like for a US citizen living in Chile? I’ve been living near Santiago, Chile off and on for almost three years. Usually, I spend six months in the U.S. and six months here. Winemakers for centuries have believed that an insect epidemic devastated vineyards and killed out the carmenere grape in the late 19th century. Until about a decade ago this was believed to be true until a wine consultant state the Merlot was too spicy and too dark and did DNA tests to confirm it was the carmenere grape. MHR 3110 Managing Organizations and People class held a paper airplane throwing contest to raise funds for micro loan accounts in Peru and Chile. This competition drew an assortment of competitors and plane designs. Following the labor strike last year Chile's ranking on the world market of investing in mining plummeted from 4th last year to 27th out of 65 countries, states and provinces. A French Judge has given the go ahead to open legal proceedings in France for 17 top Chlean leaders under the Pinochet regime. These will not begin until 2008. Seventeen Bolivians and Two Peruvians were arrested for entering the country on foot and without papers and intending to work in Chile. The illegal immigrants were planning to travel to the extreme north in order to hide from police.
