Because of the unprecedented number of Scholarship Awards being given to receipients who are connected to government officials and the opposition senators are demanding a release of a detailed report about the scholarship's administration.

Chile Plays Brazil March 24

The Swedish soccer Web site Fotboliskanalen.se reported that Brazil will play against Chile and ghana in Sweden this month. Chile's game against Brazil will be held on March 24th.

Ninety Percent Chance Earth's Average Temperature Will Rise

Empirical data gathered nationwide in meterorological stations shows that temperatures have risen 0.05 Celsius (32 degrees F) each decade for the last 35 years. This has caused a local newspaper (El Mercurio) to argue that local authorities should create policies in empirical facts rather than politial blustering with respect to global warming.

Chile On Alert for La Nina

Meterorologists in the U.S. predict an increase of hurricanes for the coming year and they are blaming La Nina which produces a cooling effect on the water surface in the Pacific Ocean. This will alter weather patterns as far as Africa. It also means less rain and more heat in the South which is already drought stricken. This has Chile on alert.

Obesity An Epidemic

Despite promising to reduce obesity from 16 percent in 2000 to 12 percent by 2010 Chile's government has done little to make this happen. At the moment 3.4 million Chileans suffer from obesity and it is predicted to rise to four million by 2010. It has become an "epidemic" with 22 percent of Chile's population classified as obese.

An Interview with Volodia Teitelboim

Volodia Teitelboim is one of Chile's most notable writers alive. He has been the biographer of Artists such as Vicente Huidobro, Gabriela Mistral and Jorge Luis Borges. FIFA Under-20 World Cup Starts July 1

On July 1st Canada will open the FIFA under-20 World Cup by playing against Chile. Chile is in Group A together with Canada, Congo and Austria. Canadian Coach Dale Mitchell stated "Chile are an outstanding technical team."

Chile to Play in Gotemburgo March 24th

Brazlian Football Federation revealed that Brazil are set to play Chile in the Swicc city of Gotemburgo. President Harold Mayne-Nicholls stated they have managed to secure a match and the game should provide the perfect preparation for the Copa America later this year and te World Cup Qualifiers for 2010.

Peso Rises Against the Dollar

Chilean stocks closed moderately higher on Friday, boosted by sold earnings reports. As foreign markets fell, the peso rose against the dollar. The IPSA gained nearly 4 percent since Wednesday after a seven-session slide of 12%. This caused the market to end at a more honest level.

17 Million Ounces of Gold Hidden

The peaksof the Andes mountains are desolate at more than 5,000 meters but under the ground this spot between Chile and Agrentina is a treasure of at least 17 million ounces of gold. In tolday's market at the prices being dictated this gold would have a market value of some $11 billion.
