The unique French street theatre performance has Chileans attempting to protect themselves from a giant Rhino. In the act, a six-meter tall puppet will wake up to find the dangerous rhinoceros. It is staged in a different place in the capitol every day.

Department of Tourism wants to increase number of visitors

The Economy Ministry agency reports that South American countries capture only 2.1 percent of total global tourism and Chile’s share of the continent’s tourism industry is only 11.2% Sernatur, the Chilean Dept of Tourism, would like to increase that an additional 14% during this coming summer season.

Pichilemu residents fight waste pipeline

Residents of Chile’s favorite surfing town warn that the proposed waste water pipe “will kill Pichilemu.” Essbio manages the area’s waste-water treatment. It currently dumps its sewage into the Petrel Lagoon, which has turned a “glowing fluorescent” color. Environmentalists and surfers alike have no doubt that the force of the waves will either return the waste to the shore or break the pipeline. Rather than the sewage pipe, they support the construction of a state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant which would purify sewage water and present less risk to the local community.

Plans announced for military cooperation with Bolivia

During last weeks visit to La Paz, Chilean Defense Minister Vivianne Blanlot announced that joint military cooperation was in plannig stages, and would include de-mining of the shared border between Chile and Bolivia.
